The Ethiopian army is crucial for change in Ethiopia

The Ethiopian armyI just finished reading Dr. Aklog Birara’s recent piece posted here. It is also posted on many websites worth reading it.
I agree with his opinion of the “opposition” in being fragmented and thus hurt the cause of the struggle for freedom and justice.
I would like also to add considering the army as “Woyane Army” and categorizing it as the enemy hurt the struggle for freedom and justice too.
The generals in the army almost Tigreans are filthy rich while the rank and file multi ethnic is not better than the majority of Ethiopians. However, the propaganda emanating from the opposition medias help the regime by alienating the poor soldiers and officers from the masses.
Mass revolt like the one we witnessed this month in Burkina Fasso can happen in Ethiopia any time without any warning. The opposition medias should better correct their flaws by bringing the rank and file of the Ethiopian army with the masses, inform them no reason to defend those in power who enrich themselves at the expense of the masses including themselves. Ethiopian army are defenders of the masses and Ethiopia. That should be the propaganda line coming out of the diaspora medias.
United opposition with the dissatisfied Ethiopian army can bring hope for our country. Without the army participation in our struggle whatever revolt is coming certainly will not bring a regime change in Ethiopia. USA and UK trained officers of the Ethiopian army who see the suffering of their people should play a transitional role for future change in Ethiopia. The 1974 Ethiopian “Abyot” is our recent history to look
  1. We know that 99 out of the 101 army commanders are former ‘tegadalay’ of the ethnofascist tigre Apeople liberation force. these fascist thugs do not feel any sense of shame or embarrassment for their open ethnicist, fascist and discriminatory policies and continue to maintain their control over the army despite protests and opposition from the rank and file army members and the general public.
these so called ‘generals’ have no knowledge of military science apart from firing guns and massacring people , which they learned at Dedebit. their university is dedebit.
they indoctrinate the rank and file soldiers to serve as slaves to their masters. the army and police have been taught to be the private body guard of tplf thugs. that is why we see so many innocent citizens being beaten up mercilessly with batons and shot and killed without question.
A police and military force trained to defend the country and the people would not do that. those on demonstration and protest are ordinary people asking for jobs, for justice, freedom and equality before the law.
the mentality that tplf has planted among the police and army has to be changed through re-training.
Until the army and police see themselves as defending the nation and its people and not some tplf thugs , I am afraid, the slavery of the army and the police and the nation as a whole will

There is a sharp difference between Hewhat army generals, who receive command and order, guns and bullets, lands and money from a handful high-ranking woyanae criminal bosses and the son and daughters solders, the fruit of the motherland’s womb, who protect the interests of citizens and defend the territorial integrity of the motherland .
The 1974 revolution was about the peasants and the lands, not about selling off farmlands and babies to customers in the middle east and and to foreign buyers and marketers elsewhere, and destroying the lives of farmers, peasants, crops, wild lives.
Ethiopians have always defeated varieties of enemies; for example, in 1997 Ethiopians defeated Woyanae, in the election and stood on the podium to carry out national and international duties, but Meles Zenawi declared war on both the victory Ethiopians had achieved and their country that would soon live perpetually; thanks for her sons and daughters, the stolen victory shall be snatched back to the right hands soon .
There has been a clear objective in minds and hearts of men and women in the army as they always are inseparable and integral part of Ethiopians; therefore, it is these sons and daughters of Ethiopia who will continue to fight against Hiwhat army tooth and nail and bring about freedom; this, it is inev
  3. Are we talking about bringing the army into the political fold here? Crucial role how? That makes the hair on my nape stand up scared stiff!!! The military should stay in its barracks where it belongs and stay alert watching over the boundaries of the nation while the civilian groups are sorting things out. The army playing crucial role? Really? Are you kidding me? I can’t believe what I am reading. What about Burkina Faso? The liberty lady has not come out singing yet. A barrage of sanctions is being dangled in his face and he is still at the palace. That army officer has been told to go back to his barrack but to no avail so far. His excuse can be in that Burkina Faso has hundreds of thousands of unemployed youth and could go become unruly and destroy property endangering human lives. That is a universal excuse you hear every time the military comes out to assume political power during seemingly chaotic situation (political power vacuum). Was it not the same excuse Mengistu told our people in 1974? He ‘promised’ every one that the army did not have any desire or ambition to be the ruler of the country and they will go back to their camps as soon as possible. That ‘as soon as possible’ became 1975, 76, 77, 78 and by that time the people realized the truth of his ‘promise’ it was too late for them. He murdered, maimed and made people languish in jail without giving them a single day in court. It took the lives of millions and millions more with scarred psyche still suffering from the effects of his hellish rule to get rid of him. 17 years of hell on earth in all!!!! Don’t start with me about the military playing ‘crucial’ political role. They are hired and trained with the sole task of protecting the sovereignty of the people and the nation they live in and that is it. No more and no less. What are you thinking?
