The sugar factory that is being constructed by Defense Engineering Corporation (DEC) on 60 hectares of land in a district of Amhara region, Ethiopia, has burnt down to the ground. The construction is late by one year from the set deadline. There is no one who took the responsibility for the fire that consumed the sugar cane farm and authorities didn’t name anyone as responsible for the fire. The officer of the factory, Mr. Bynesagn, said, we cannot mention the cause before the investigation is completed.

Others indicate it is an act committed purposely opposing the action taken. The residents who were displaced to give way for the construction have been opposing the plan since the beginning. Mr. Bynesagn also indicated, it is very difficult to indicate the financial loss before the investigation is finished. The organization was forced to burn the sugar cane two years prior due to the delay of the factory’s construction.
